Should I see a chiropractor for scoliosis?

Yes. Chiropractors are superiorly equipped to deal with scoliosis. In instances when there is a greater than 30% curvature, bracing and surgery may also be required. In any instance Chiropractic will help deal with inevitable asymmetries and compensatory occurrences which have happened as a result of the scoliosis. Chiropractic will help maintain mobility through the spine with regular adjustments, and specific tailored take home exercises for each patient.

Should I see a chiropractor if I have no pain?

Yes. Everyone can benefit from a chiropractic consultation. There is always room for improvement. Be it a correction to your walking style, your various postures both seated and standing or a tailored stretching routine to correct and maximise optimal movement to each individual patient.

Does chiropractic care release toxins?

There is no hard and fast evidence to show that Chiropractic treatment helps to release toxins. Detoxification with regards to the intestines, liver, kidneys and other organ systems are more associated with specific diets, medications and supplement regimes.

Is it normal to feel worse after seeing a chiropractor?

No. Everyone reacts differently to a Chiropractic adjustment. Though in the majority of cases people report a positive reaction to treatment. It is not uncommon to feel some muscle soreness from the soft tissue work. Sometimes where a joint has been quite locked up for a while and is suddenly liberated, though it is a positive step in the right direction, there can still be some discomfort where acute injuries are being cared for.

What’s the difference between a DO and a chiropractor?

Assuming DO stands for Doctor of Osteopathy and DC stands for Doctor of Chiropractic, yes there are differences. This will vary depending on which country the Doctor has completed their training in. Generally speaking, Chiropractors learn more ways on how to manipulate all joints of the body including the arms and the legs. They are also qualified to take their own x-rays and report on their findings. Osteopaths learn more techniques on soft tissue work and tend to give slightly longer consultations.

Can chiropractors fix posture?

This depends entirely on the individual’s condition. It’s based on how long the problem has been there, the severity of the injury, patient compliance with exercise prescription and adherence and commitment to postural modifications. We can equip patients with tools on how to optimise their various postures both seated, standing and lying so the ‘fix’ aspect is therefore a team effort.

How do you realign your spine?

The first port of call should always be to see your Chiropractor. As they are the most highly trained professional for this purpose.

Why does a chiropractor crack your neck?

There are a number of reasons why. The main reason why a Chiropractor adjusts your neck is to return normal function back to your neck. Whether it be due to a car accident or washing your hair, poor work posture, bad ergonomic setup or any other activity which causes your neck to lose its normal function.

Is Chiropractic better than massage?

Yes. A Chiropractor has a minimum of 5 years training. Massage therapists do not require to have any qualifications to work as a Massage Therapist. Chiropractors are able to diagnose and treat all musculoskeletal complaints. Whereas Massage Therapists are not able to diagnose and therefore may not actually be addressing the problem during the massage.

Yes. Poor posture causing weakness in some muscles and tightness in others which lead to poor joint function can all be helped with Chiropractic treatment.

Do chiropractors really move bones?

Chiropractors do not move bones, they restore joints back to optimal function.

There are 12 cranial nerves that originate from the brain and the vagus nerve is the 10th cranial nerve. It is known as the wandering nerve as it has the most vast distribution of all the cranial nerves and is the longest nerve of the autonomic nervous system. It is responsible for parasympathetic (non-stress system) control of the heart, a large portion of the digestive tract and a few other things also. There is limited/mixed evidence to show that both chiropractic care and implanted vagus nerve stimulation have an affect on the vagus nerve.

How do you know if you have vagus nerve damage?

You may be suffering from vagus nerve damage if you experience pain, muscle cramps, organ dysfunction, peptic ulcers, fainting, difficulty swallowing or paralysis of the digestive tract. Needless to say this requires diagnosis from a qualified health care practitioner for further investigation.

How can I strengthen my vagus nerve?

Regular yoga practice, meditation where slowed breathing occurs can help to reduce overall stress levels and therefore may assist the vagus nerve but there is little evidence as to the effectiveness of such things for strengthening the vagus nerve.
